The celebrated contemporary Chinese composer, winner of both the Golden Bell Award (China’s highest music composition honor) and First Prize at the Shanghai Spring International Composition Competition Dongqing Fang chose this duality as his theme, crafting an aural representation of crystalline rationality and blood-red passion through contrasting sonic textures - depicting their conflict, juxtaposition, and ultimate fusion to achieve an artistic unity of opposites. [03:35.49] [03:38.12]Ice and Fire, originally premiered in 2016 by Lucina Yue with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra as a konghou concerto, appears here in its chamber version with two movements: Dance of Ice and Dance of Fire. Eight cellos and percussion provide rich harmonic foundations against the konghou’s shimmering tones, embodying the work’s core paradox: transcendent purity forged through unrelenting tension - where glacial resolve meets unquenchable flame.
